If you missed last week's "Lego-Rama!":

We had three participants in the 4-8 age group, six participants in the 9-12 age group, and three adult participants.  The People’s Choice prize went to Keegan Haag, age 7, for his Lego project called “Head factory.”

A few Lego projects will be on display at the library for one week.

Fun was had by all and refreshments followed the judging.  And if you enjoyed "Lego-Rama!," you're in luck: there will be a Lego event on the first Friday of each month beginning January 6th, 2012! The Lego event would be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Thank you to our judges:  Donna Helsius, Aimee Rosenberg, Dale Slack, and Bonnie Williams.

The Rebels by Jack Cavanaugh

Posted by heather in Reviews & Recommended Books

5 out of 5 stars

The author doesn't write history as it may be thought of universally, but searches for actual facts. This is a refreshing look at the Civil War that is not bent by the propaganda of then and today. The author presents history just like history happened, with a fair view of both sides. He (the author) writes with an open mind and does not tarnish his writing with his own preconceived notions.

Squeaky Clean Reads: Link of the Month

Posted by heather in Link of the Month

Squeaky Clean Reads is a website specializing in content reviews of books for middle grade (10-14) and teen (14-19) readers. An excellent resource to help the reader (or parent!) find "clean" books.

Regarding their reviews, Squeaky Clean Reads says:

"In our review process, we give an overall review (a review of the book's literary qualities), and then a content review (a discussion of possibly objectionable material found in the book).  We want to let our readers know that our overall reviews and ratings are NOT affected or influenced by the book's content.  We aim to provide a professional, literary review of each book, and then go on to simply provide the book's content for your consideration."

Books are separated into lists organized by star rating, age level, topics (fiction, non-fiction, paranormal, mystery, etc), and the ones that make the cut are put on their Squeaky Clean Book List

My Life, The Theatre, and Other Tragedies by Zadoff

Posted by heather in Reviews & Recommended Books

Rating: 3 1/2 out of 5

[I gave it three and a half stars] because I thought it was cool how it was all about Adam's theatre life, as a techie, and how he tries to save the show and get the girl.
