The Columbia County Rural Library District is sponsoring a “Show and Tell” for eReader Devices.  Thanks to the Washington State Library, who received a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, an eReader lab is being sent to various libraries around the state.  The Washington State Library purchased a Kindle, Nook, iPad, and iPhone.  The eReader lab is coming to the Columbia County Rural Library District in January.

Anyone interested in purchasing an eReader device, wants to learn how to use one, or wants to bring his/her own device to learn how to download an eBook is welcome to attend one of the free “Show and Tell” sessions.  Staff will be available to help people download an eBook.  The Columbia County Rural Library District now offers eBooks through their Web site, www.ccrld.lib.wa.us, which can be downloaded for free to a Kindle, Nook, Ipad, Iphone, PC, and some other devices.  Downloading an eBook to the Washington State Library’s devices will not be allowed.  Those devices from the State Library are just for viewing and seeing how they operate.  A few books have already been downloaded to the State Library’s devices.

Come and see what these devices look like or bring you own device and learn how to download an eBook.  Dates for the “Show and Tell” are:

• January 17^th 10 to 11 a.m.
  
• January 18^th 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
  
• January 19^th 11 to noon

The Columbia County Rural Library District will be updating their circulation, cataloging and public access catalog software, known as an Integrated Library System (ILS), in February.  The Columbia County Rural Library District Board of Trustees approved the new open source system “Koha integrated library system”with ByWater Solutions. ByWater Solutions provides ongoing support and will host the system.

Training for the staff on the new system will be January 23rd through January 25th.  The Library District will go live with their new system on February 21st.

Closure dates and time in January for staff training are as follows:

• Closed all day Monday, January 23rd
• Closed Tuesday, January 24th from noon to 5 p.m. – OPEN 5 to 8 p.m.
• Closed Wednesday, January 25th from 10 to 1 p.m. – OPEN 1 to 5 p.m.
